Season 2022

Southern Power Youth Girls produced Sydney Souths first Youth Girls team in 2014 in the U14’s competition with 9 girls. In SPYG 2nd year we made our first finals appearance and in 2016 won our first premiership in the U18’s Div 2 Competition.

In 2017, Southern Power had 54 girls entered in Youth Girls teams in the Sydney Harbour competitions in U12s, U15s and U18s divisions. Recruitment is largely driven by the club’s volunteers and current players along with marketing by the AFL and the advent of the AFLW competition. Girls can now realise their dream of playing Australian Rules Football professionally and Southern Power are excited about the part that they play in completing this pathway from Youth Girls to seniors and professional players.

The Club has experienced significant team and individual success in a very short amount of time.

Our premierships include:

  • 2016: U18’s Div 2

  • 2017: U15’s Div 1

  • 2018: U18’s Div 1

  • 2019: U12’s South, U16’s Div 2, U18’s Div 1

  • 2020: U14’s Div 3

Our Youth Girls program has seen the development of players in representative pathways including representing multicultural, regional and state teams, and the Sydney Swans Academy program. We have seen players come through our Youth Girls program and continue playing in the Sydney AFL seniors competition.

Our Youth Girls program has also seen the development and promotion of females in AFL off and on the field including umpires, coaches and committee members. We pride ourselves in promoting females in football and being pioneers in the Youth Girls program in Sydney’s South.
