Vale – Bill Free

15th November, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of one of the Clubs founding members, Bill Free on 11 November, 2010, after a short battle from a brain tumour.

Bill was a very proud former player, coach, committee member, league delegate, President and Life Member of the Sutherland Australian Football Club. He was actively involved with the club in all capacities from 1971 up until his final role with the club in 1986 as coach of the clubs third grade team who finished runners up.

His greatest joy from his involvement with the club came in 1984, when as President of the club, he witnessed the Sharks, as they were then known, win its first 2 premierships on the same day at Rosedale Oval.

In his final weeks, Bill was able to view a replay of the Power’s 2010 premiership, and he commented that the future of the Sharks, now Power, looks in very safe hands.

Although not actively involved with the club since the 1980’s he retained a keen interest in how the club fared on the ladder each year, and friendships he formed from those days he retained right up until his passing.

Bills funeral is to be held at St Johns Anglican Church, Robertson NSW at 1.30pm on Wednesday 17th November.
