Avio Scotti and Rod Loxley appointed as Under 18’s Coaches for 2011

7th December, 2010

The Southern Power AFC is pleased to announce the appointment of Avio Scotti and Rod Loxley as the co-coaches for the Under 18’s side for the 2011 season.

The appointment of Avio and Rod is another exciting step forward for the Power as the Club continues to build on the momentum of 2010, culminating in the 1st Grade side claiming the Division 2 premiership. The new coaches will be seeking to continue the impressive record of the Under 18’s team following four successive years competing in the finals including two as runners up as well as continuing to build on the Club’s strengthening relationships with the junior clubs in the region.

Avio comes to the Power following many years of successfully coaching football at junior and senior level, and his knowledge of the game will be a huge asset for the young side. Rod has been a player at the Power for numerous years now, and after hanging up the boots following the 1st Grade premiership earlier this year was keen to get involved in the coaching side of the game.

“I am very delighted to have been given the opportunity to join this young, rapidly expanding and exciting football club” Avio said. “This is a club that definitely has many opportunities to continue to succeed in 2011 and beyond. I know that the Southern Power AFC was created and built by a group of passionate people. I was privileged to know some of those people and I have no doubt that together as a team we will continue to carry that passion onto the field. I very much look forward to working with you all in 2011 and making it a successful season.”

“This appointment is such a positive not only for the 18’s, but for the entire Club” said new club President Simon Davies. “I’m very pleased that Avio has joined the Power, and I have no doubt his experience and insight will rub off on our young blokes. His teaming with Rod, who has worked with many of the juniors previously is an exciting prospect for the side. Returning 18’s players and local juniors considering joining the Power in 2011 should be looking forward to a challenging and enjoyable season.”

The coaches will be ably assisted by a large support team who are keen to see an overdue 18’s premiership including 2010 Division 2 League Best & Fairest winner Liam Davis, 2009 Under 18 League Best and Fairest winner Rhys Vance, Club captain Phillip Hamer as well as Lou Maratheftis and local juniors Marshall Cairnduff, Adam Cook and Luke Jansson.

Pre-season training started in early November with excellent numbers across all grades and following a short Christmas break will resume on Tuesday 18th January at 6:15pm at Waratah Oval, Rawson Avenue, Sutherland and every Tuesday and Thursday following.

All current Under 18’s and those Under 16’s moving to senior football in 2011 are invited to ‘Meet the Coaches’ on Tuesday 14th December at Waratah Oval from 6:15pm.
