Southern Power show Big Heart for Kids!

21st February, 2014

image003It is with great pleasure that the Southern Power AFL Club announce a very special partnership with HeartKids NSW for the 2014/15 seasons. The Power will partner with HeartKids to provide community awareness and, much needed support with volunteers and donations from the club.

“Six babies are born with Childhood Heart Disease every day in Australia. If we, as a club can help to raise funds which will make the lives of the families a little bit easier, we will support it 100%” said Lauren Hodgson, Club President. “One of our club members who has been involved in the club for a number of years has been personally affected, with his son undergoing open heart surgery at just 3 days old. Being a local Sydney resident and travelling back and forth to Westmead Children’s Hospital, was tough. It’s even more of an ordeal for those families that are from rural NSW and are away from their support network of family and friends. All of these families need as much support as they can get.”

In 2013, the club was proud to provide support to the Guide Dogs with a black tie dinner event featuring Kevin Sheedy as the guest speaker. The event was a huge success attracting over 120 guests. This year we will once again work with HeartKids on another formal dinner event, along with other fundraising and awareness building activities with all proceeds going to support the organisation.

Lauren added “As a club, we want to do more for community organisations. This year our game day match balls will feature the HeartKids logo, as well as it being placed on our club apparel. It will be a valuable reminder to appreciate life, give back to the community and to always play the game with a big heart!”
