Power 3 from 3 and 3rds into GF

29th August, 2011

The Power enjoyed their most successful weekend ever of finals football last weekend when all 3 seniors sides recorded victories.

The mighty 3rd Grade side kicked the weekend off in style when they comfortably accounted for Moorebank at Rosedale Oval on Saturday morning. Going into the match as favourites thanks to their unbeaten home and away season, the boys controlled the game from the outset to record a 11.10-76 to 2.4-16 victory and become the first side in Sydney to book a Grand Final berth. Jerry dominated in the ruck to give the Power on ballers first use of the football where they were able to get the ball into the attacking 50. Offal came out firing and kicked 4 for the match including a couple from outside the arc while Crowie was the other multiple goal scorer.

The Power now have the week off while they wait for their Grand Final opponent to be decided next weekend out of Moorebank and Manly.

The Grand Final will be held at Blacktown Olympic Park on Saturday 10th September at 8:45am and similar to last year buses will be organized to ferry supporters to and from the game. Details of this to follow shortly.

Following the 3rds victory in the morning the Powers 1st Grade side travelled out to sunny Kellyville for their match against 3rd placed Sydney Uni. With the 2 regular season games split between the 2 clubs the Power knew a very tough game was ahead but jumped out of the blocks early to kick 3 quick goals in the opening 5 minutes to get he jump. The game settled down after that with a very even first half following. The 3rd quarter was where the Power got on top and stretched their lead and at the final siren were 82-37 winners. It was a really great all round team performance with Sting kicking a career high 5 goals. The side now take on Manly in Wollongong at 1pm next weekend with the winner going straight to the Grand Final two weeks later.

The final game of the weekend saw the Power’s Reserve Grade team head to Blacktown Olympic Park on Sunday morning to take on Saints AFC in a do or die contest. Despite comfortably going down to the Saints twice this year the boys were confident they could turn the tables and seized control of the game early with a 4 goal opening quarter while restricting Maroubra to just one. As the Power’s confidence grew so did the lead and by halftime the boys looked well on their way. A 2 goal to 1 third term all but sealed the win and only inaccurate kicking in the last quarter stopped the final margin being more as the side chalked up the Powers 3rd win of the weekend with a 14.14-98 to 4.5-29 victory. Newy dominated on the wing all day while Lyndon kicked another 4 goals while goal sneak Wardy kicked 3 great goals. The side now return to Blacktown Olympic Park at 9am next Sunday morning to take on Sydney Uni in another winner take all match.

Congratulations to all teams and lets keep the yip up!
