Power Boys Make Some Noise

30th September, 2013

The Southern Power club song was sung with gusto out at Blacktown International Sports Park last Saturday as the Division 1 men’s side claimed the clubs 4th premiership flag in as many years following the Div 2 win in 2010, Div 5 in 2011 and U18 Div 2 last year.

In a dominant display Power led from the opening bounce and kept opponent UNSW/ES goalless in the second half and went on to win by a staggering 85 points. Power forward, Alan Fritsch kicked 4 goals and was named best on ground, whilst Stu Brierty, Adrian Enright and Duane Wild were amongst the Powers best.

Highlights from the game included a 7 goal second term, club leading goal kicker Jared Wilson bagging 4 goals and Matt Young laying a bone crunching tackle on an unsuspecting opponent, not to forget the commentary and support coming from Power Hill.

The win caps off a great year for the Power which has seen the Women’s team have 11 nominees in the team of the year and make their first ever Grand Final, Stu Brierty claim the Snow Medal (AFL Sydney Div 1 B&F), Lauren Hodgson named as the Volunteer Year of the Year for AFL Sydney Women’s, and several players make representative and State sides:

  • Adam Cooke (AFL Sydney Development Team)
  • Alex Tegg (U18 Youth Girls Nationals)
  • Graham Enright (AFL Sydney Development Team)
  • James Clarke Enright (AFL Sydney Development Team)
  • Jenna Miller (NSW Women’s Team)
  • Kathryn Hull (NSW Women’s Team)
  • Stu Brierty (AFL Sydney Development Team)

The Committee would like to thank all players, coaches, family, friends and sponsors for their support in 2013 and look forward to seeing you all again in 2014.
