Reclink is in the process of recruiting volunteers for an upcoming charity event, The Community Cup that is being run on Sunday 18 March at Henson Park in Marrickville.
The purpose of this event is to raise money for Reclink – a national not for profit organisation providing sport and arts activities for individuals in the community experiencing disadvantage. All money raised from this event will be invested back in to Reclink’s activities in the community. For more information on Reclink here is a link to the website http://www.reclink.org/
The Community Cup is an iconic event that has been staged in Melbourne for the past 18 years and brings together all members of the local community, including families to enjoy a day of live music bands, an AFL football match and children’s activities. 2012 is the first year that the event will be hosted in Sydney and we are hoping this will be an ongoing, exciting sustainable community event.
A brief outline of the day’s activities include:
- 12noon Gates open
- 12.10pm Band 1
- 1pm Band 2
- 2pm AFL Match commences
- 3.20pm Band 3 at half time of AFL match – headline act
- 4.45pm Band 4 on conclusion of the AFL match
- 6pm Gates close – at the latest
We are looking for volunteers who are willing to give up 4 hours of their time on Sunday 18 March to help with the event. The types of roles we are looking to fill include:
- Food & Beverage Sales/Service
- Merchandise Sales
- Gate Attendants
- Traffic Management
- Event set-up/Pack-down
We are offering $50 to each person who does a 4hr shift and this money can be kept by the individual or used at their sporting club to buy new equipment or maintenance etc. 10 volunteers = $500 for their club! Volunteers are required to be a minimum of 18 years old.
To register please go to the Reclink Australia website and follow the prompts to the online registration form. Make sure that you include ‘Southern Power AFC’ in the how did you hear about the event tab.

Following the resignation of Matt Graham from the Power committee, on Wednesday night the committee met to elect a new secretary and we are very pleased to announce Dave Bell has taken over the role. This will be Bellys 4th year at the club and in that time he has been an integral part of the Powers committee including the clubs registrars role while last year he won the Powers Volunteer Award. Belly will do a great job in the role and we wish him well.
Any queries should be directed to Belly on 0415 940 219 or secretary@southernpower.com.au

Craigys brother in law has been organising a charity bike ride from Sydney to Canberra over 2 days in March.
The 1st day they are riding from Moorebank to Goulburn which is 170 kms and the 2nd day from Goulburn to Canberra and back out to Sutton which is 110 kms.
The reason for this ride is because in September 2011 Criagys brother in laws best friend and his wife (Graham and Nadine) lost their baby boy Cameron at 38 weeks.
The name of the ride is Sydney 2 CAMberra in Cameron’s honour.
The ride is to raise awareness of Stillbirth and support those families that are devastated when they lose their unborn child. SIDS and KIDS NSW have also been offering free counselling and support to people who lose their children through Stillbirth and SIDS for years. For this reason all monies raised will be donated evenly to SIDS and KIDS NSW and the Stillbirth Foundation of Australia.
Now it is time to reach out to try to raise some funds for this worthy cause. Any donations however big or small are much appreciated as they try and help those affected by Stillbirth and SIDS.
