Maddis Bishop announced as inaugural Bryan Cairnduff Rising Star Scholarship winner

1st August, 2011

Earlier this year, the Southern Power AFC was extremely proud to announce that Maddis Bishop was the recipient of the inaugural Bryan Cairnduff Rising Star Scholarship. The scholarship is aimed at 16 to 18 year old AFL players within the Sutherland Shire and is designed to attract young players and their families to experience AFL with the Southern Power AFC. It also recognises talented juniors within the Sutherland Shire and aims to support and nurture them through Under 18’s football with the club and make the transition to senior football a smooth one.

2011 is Maddis’s 2nd year in the Under 18’s after playing a very important role in the 2010 side which narrowly missed out on making the Grand Final. Maddis’s stellar 2010 saw him finish the runner up by 1 vote in the Hart Medal, the medal awarded to the Best and Fairest player in the Under 18’s Challenge Cup.

Maddis plays the majority of his football in the centre of the ground and his blistering acceleration, great skills and hardness over the ball see him as a player opposition teams try to nullify to get them across the line. Although only halfway through the 2011 season, this year has seen Maddis continue from where he left off last year and has been in great form and will be looking to lead his troops to finals again this year. 2011 has also seen Maddis play a handful of 1st Grade games with the senior side where he has more than held his own. While there is a long way left in the 2011 season we look forward to Maddis joining the senior team in 2012.

Congratulations Maddis!
