Junior Represents

5th February, 2013

The Southern Power AFC has started off 2013 with some fantastic news. The youngest member of the Southern Power Women’s team, Alex (Junior) Tegg, has been rewarded for her hard-work, and love of the game; being selected in the AFL Female High Performance Academy Program (HPAF).

Alex is one of only 22 girls from around Australia, under the age of 16 to be selected. The program is focussed around fast-tracking their development, and building a further understanding of the game.

Her election in the squad includes a camp in Melbourne, run by former AFL coaches and players. Here, the members will learn about nutrition, kicking, fitness, and strength and conditioning.

To help Alex attend this program, the AFL is paying for all flights and accommodation required, showing great commitment to developing Women’s involvement within the sport.

This is a great opportunity for Alex, and is very well deserved. This also comes after two other Southern Power Women’s players in Jenna Miller and Kathryn Hull, were selected in the NSW squad, with Huggies also being selected in AFL Sydney Women’s Team of the Year.

Great signs of thing to come with a big season ahead for the Power girls.
