Flashback Friday – Stu Cloney

24th April, 2014

Stu collage FFA little early but seeing as though it’s Anzac day tomorrow we thought we’d publish this today.

Thanks to Stu for taking time out to answer a few questions for our latest Flashback Friday.

Name: Stuart Cloney
Nickname: Cartman
Seasons played with Power/Sharks: 1996 – 2011
Position Played: Started back and as I go slower moved further forward (Favourite was Centre)
Seasons on Committee: 1997-2011 – Registrar, Secretary, Vice President and 3rd Grade Coach.

In your time at the club what were your personal highlights?
Stu: Being picked in the ones, not having the second ball that came my way in my debut first grade game hit me in the face.
Jumping over the ball to iron out a Parramatta player (Likely 10 weeks in today’s soft game)

Where there any significant changes to the club or league during your time?
Stu: Massive – We went from a very social team to a very social team that started to win and compete, the development firstly of the under 18’s, the subsequent club name change to the Power and then the development of our Women’s sides are all great moves. Divisonalisation has made the competition better but means that divisions between different sides within a club seem to have grown from the old days.

What does it mean to you to be a past player, coach, committee member of the Power/Sharks?
It was/is a great footy club, just need more hours in the week and I’d still be a part of it. Most of my mates are or were members of the Sharks/Power somewhere along the journey.

Will you be making an appearance at the Old Boys match this year? Saturday 31 May, Div 1 vs St George.
Stu: I’ll be there – Suffering from Sciatica at present so very unlikely to be playing if there is an old boys game.

Any words for the current members and supporters?
I was thinking of some immortal words of wisdom imparted on me by Kevin Portsmouth but you couldn’t print that…… So I’ll go with a Greg Zuber Favourite…. Remember, they cannot run without heads.
