Flashback Friday – Ryan Libbis

2nd May, 2014

Ryan Libbis flashback picThanks to Libba for taking time out to answer a few questions for our latest Flashback Friday.

Name: Ryan Libbis
Nickname: Libba
Seasons played with Power/Sharks: 2003-2012
Position Played: Mainly Forward
Seasons on Committee (what role): 2009 – 2010 (General committee)

In your time at the club what were your personal highlights?
Libba: Playing and coaching the 2011 3rds undefeated premiership was a great year and probably the highlight. Obviously seeing the club winning premierships and being successful in recent years has also been great. Helping Craigy with the premiership winning Div 1 side last year was also a pleasure.
I also really enjoyed my first year at the sharks in 2003 coached by Fitzy we played a really good brand of football and made finals for the first time in a long time. We had a side full of talent with blokes like Braxy, Rod Craig and Haydon Reid in full flight and a few real hard footballers like Dingo, Fitzy and Stelios running around it was a really great time to be at the club.

Where there any significant changes to the club or league during your time?
Libba: When I first arrived we played in the Sydney Football Association with both 1s & 2s playing against the same opposition each week. Now with everyone under the Sydney afl banner and having teams playing in different divisions at different grounds all around Sydney each weekend it’s been a massive change to the weekend of footy.

What does it mean to you to be a past player, coach, committee member of the Power/Sharks?
Libba: Obviously looking back on memories of the big wins is something that you always have and look back on. I also have made some really good lifelong mates at the club which is great.
I follow the results each week closely and look forward to seeing the club continuing to be successful.

Will you be making an appearance at the Old Boys match this year? Saturday 31 May, Div 1 vs St George.
Libba: Yes I will be down there watching the boys give St George another touch up. One of the good things to come out of the divisional system in recent years has been the chance the club has had to play and beat St George twice a year so can’t wait.

Any words for the current members and supporters?
Libba: Even though we don’t currently play them it’s still okay to hate Manly. Also anyone that happens to bump into me at Old Boys day should feel free to buy me a beer.
