Waratah Oval Redevelopment Fundraising Golf Day

1st March, 2012

As you are aware the Southern Power AFC are very close to achieving our plan of leaving Fortress Gwawley.

The redevelopment of Waratah Oval is progressing and with your support and that of your family and friends we can make this a reality in the very near future.

This year we are having a fundraising golf day and dinner on Friday 4th May with all proceeds going directly to the Waratah Project.

The Southern Power in conjunction with AFL Sydney, Sutherland Shire Council and Miranda Bombers are looking to build a first class AFL facility for our club and all junior clubs in the Sutherland Shire.

Therefore we are asking you to promote the day by networking with your family, friends and any businesses that you think could benefit from such a event.

We have lined up some fantastic entertainment, prizes and auction items that will make the event a great one.

We are also lucky with the draw that 1st grade and 3rd grade happen to play Sunday that week!

So please support the day in whatever way you can.

Volunteering at The Community Cup

1st March, 2012

Reclink is in the process of recruiting volunteers for an upcoming charity event, The Community Cup that is being run on Sunday 18 March at Henson Park in Marrickville.

The purpose of this event is to raise money for Reclink – a national not for profit organisation providing sport and arts activities for individuals in the community experiencing disadvantage. All money raised from this event will be invested back in to Reclink’s activities in the community. For more information on Reclink here is a link to the website http://www.reclink.org/

The Community Cup is an iconic event that has been staged in Melbourne for the past 18 years and brings together all members of the local community, including families to enjoy a day of live music bands, an AFL football match and children’s activities. 2012 is the first year that the event will be hosted in Sydney and we are hoping this will be an ongoing, exciting sustainable community event.

A brief outline of the day’s activities include:

  • 12noon Gates open
  • 12.10pm Band 1
  • 1pm Band 2
  • 2pm AFL Match commences
  • 3.20pm Band 3 at half time of AFL match – headline act
  • 4.45pm Band 4 on conclusion of the AFL match
  • 6pm Gates close – at the latest

We are looking for volunteers who are willing to give up 4 hours of their time on Sunday 18 March to help with the event. The types of roles we are looking to fill include:

  • Food & Beverage Sales/Service
  • Merchandise Sales
  • Gate Attendants
  • Traffic Management
  • Event set-up/Pack-down

We are offering $50 to each person who does a 4hr shift and this money can be kept by the individual or used at their sporting club to buy new equipment or maintenance etc. 10 volunteers = $500 for their club! Volunteers are required to be a minimum of 18 years old.

To register please go to the Reclink Australia website and follow the prompts to the online registration form. Make sure that you include ‘Southern Power AFC’ in the how did you hear about the event tab.

Contact Kathryn Hull if you are interested and would like more information.
