Caroca reappointed as Women’s Coach

25th November, 2015

Southern Power AFC is pleased to announce the reappointment of Abraham Caroca as the Women’s coach for 2016.

This will be Abe’s second year at the helm of the side who play in the top division of the AFL Sydney Women’s competition.

A well respected coach with a wealth of knowledge, Abe has a strong coaching CV where he also coaches as part of the prestigious Sydney Swans academy while was also an assistant coach of the NSW/ACT Women’s as well as the AFL Sydney Women’s representative teams in 2015.

2015 saw Abe lead the side into the Division One competition following the undefeated 2014 Premiership season a year earlier. It was a learning year for the side in the top flight, however the side were more than competitive and there was noticeable improvement under Abe which he will be looking to build upon in 2016. With a youth girls side now up and running (and plans for a second in 2016), the future looks bright for the senior team under Abe’s guidance and he is confident of being a serious contender in 2016.

“It was a tough 1st year in the top flight for us – with a smallish list, some significant injuries, and 13+ girls playing their first ever game of footy,” Caroca said.

“But we learnt a lot, and now we’re looking forward to taking the next step and really challenging ourselves be more than competitive in 2016.”

With the announcement of a national women’s competition to start in 2017, the club is confident that with someone of Abe’s calibre, and the talent in the region, the Power will be an attractive option for talented players and be a true pathway to the elite level.

Congratulations once again to Abe on the reappointment!
