A Word from the 18’s Coach – Avio Scotti

6th December, 2011

The preseason has once again come around with a blink of an eye.

As we end 2011 and prepare for the 2012 assault, there are many exiting initiatives both immediate, and longer term that makes the future here at the Power extremely positive.

The club has lodged its Development Application with Sutherland Council to not only upgrade the playing surface at Waratah Oval Sutherland but to also build a new club house for what will be the Power’s new home ground. This will be another important step in the continued growth, evolution and development of this very young club. These are exciting times. The Power has a plan and together with you is going places.

The Power‘s Executive Committee comprised of passionate AFL stalwarts, is constantly driving improvements at every level and facet of this Football Club. The Club is very lucky to have an EC who are prepared – as with the players on field, to put in the hard yards off the field. The Brian Cairnduff Scholarship to the best U16’s player at each junior club is another example of its commitment to continue to grow the club.

Last year the U18’s fielded a predominantly young side. All of those first year players (excluding those moving interstate and back overseas) will be returning giving us a great deal of depth and experience at senior footy level. There is also an extremely positive stream of players joining the Power from the various U16’s clubs which will also significantly bolster numbers, making 2012 look very, very exciting.

The pre season has commenced and it is pleasing to see a number of U18’s – both new and old chafing at the bit to get the footy season up and running proper. I am aware that there are competing demands for your time and as a club the Power will do whatever it can to support your participation in the footy club.

There is no doubt that the preseason is the most important part of the season.

It not only lays the foundation for your individual performance, but that of team. Furthermore, a solid preseason is a critical component in the prevention of injuries – something we all want to avoid.

There are a number of exciting initiatives the club will be instigating this year particularly in the pre season and this will be communicated to you as the preseason unfolds. These are more positive steps the club is making as it moves towards adopting a more professional approach to the way footy is played at the Power without compromising the great culture it has built since its inception. I look forward to working with you to achieve the goals you will have.

Finally I end with one of my favorite quotation from Calvin Coolidge 30th President of the USA.

“Nothing in the world can take place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”
