2010 Coaches Appointed

26th November, 2009

Southern Power AFC is pleased to announce its coaches for the 2010 season.

Simon Closter has been reappointed as the First Grade coach for 2010 and he will be joined by a new assistant coach in Michael MacLennan. This will be Closter’s 3rd season as the senior coach of the club and he will be looking to build on the last few years success. The club has made finals in both years under Closters coaching but he will be looking for the side to take the next step in 2010 by claiming an elusive premiership. MacLennan unofficially assisted in 2009 but in 2010 he will join the team full time and will take care of a lot of the fitness and conditioning.

The Powers Reserve Grade side will have a new coach for 2010 with Cameron Roe taking over the reigns. Cameron is by no means a new face at the club however being one of the longest serving current members of the club. This will be Roe’s first foray into the coaching side of the game but if he takes his ability on the field into this role he is sure to be a success. He will work closely with the First Grade coaches to ensure a similar game plan for the side and with an influx of new players to the club it looks a promising year ahead for the Reserves.

The new Third Grade side will be co-coached by Cheyne Anderson and Stuart Cloney. Cheyne has played at the club for many years and returns after a year away and will be assisted from the sidelines by club stalwart Stuart Cloney. With the big increase in numbers for 2010 the Third Grade side is expected to be very competitive throughout the season.

Under 18’s will be coached by Robert Cooksley next season and he will be assisted by Rhys Vance and Lou Maratheftis. Rob has been involved with the 18’s since its formation and takes the reigns from Trent McMillan who has done a wonderful job the past 2 years but has decided to return to the field himself. Assistant coach Rhys Vance was actually the captain of this years Under 18’s side so knows what 18’s football is all about and will be a great help for the team. Unfortunately he requires a year off from surgery but it is great to see him stay involved at the club.

The newly formed womens team will be coached by Gary Slowgrove who coached this side last season.

Congratulations to all coaches for 2010 and we look forward to a successful season.
